What is Saypha® MagIQ™?
Saypha® MagIQ™ is an injectable hyaluronic acid gel with lidocaine designed to soften the look of smile lines and restore a lighter, more open expression — without changing the features that make you look like you. It is the first FDA-approved dermal filler from Obagi® Medical, a brand long trusted for its physician-grade skin care formulas for pigmentation and wrinkles.
The filler was developed by Croma-Pharma, a company with over 40 years of expertise in hyaluronic acid-based treatments and more than 110 million syringes produced. Dr. Joel Schlessinger says, “Croma was started by a family of pharmacists more than 50 years ago by providing hyaluronic acid products for ocular lenses and joint injections. This means they have to adhere to a standard that is significantly higher than skin injections, but they bring this same rigor to the products we use. Dr. Daniel says, “That depth of experience is reflected in the clinical trials behind Saypha® MagIQ™, which was approved following a study of 270 patients with 48 weeks of follow-up data. I like their science and approach.”
“We performed the clinical trials on a ‘sister’ version of this product, ChIQ, which is coming soon to the US,” says Dr. Joel Schlessinger, board-certified dermatologist, Mohs surgeon and cosmetic surgeon. “We started this trial 5 years ago, so we are well aware of the great job the company and its products do in improving wrinkles and sagging on the face. It was a favorite (both of patients and dermatologists) during the trials, and we are so excited to have it back to use on our clinic patients now.”

Am I a good candidate?
Saypha® MagIQ™ is well-suited for adults over 21 who want to address nasolabial folds or restore facial volume loss from aging without surgery or significant downtime. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and it cannot be used in areas with active skin infections, inflammation or bleeding disorders.

What to expect during treatment
Your appointment at Schlessinger MD begins with cleansing and preparing the treatment area. Your provider will carefully mark the injection sites to ensure precise, symmetrical placement for a result that blends seamlessly into your expression. Treatment time varies depending on the number of areas being addressed.
Saypha® MagIQ™ contains lidocaine in the formula itself, which helps minimize discomfort during injection. Both doctors are quite adept at injection technique, making the process even easier.

Saypha® MagIQ™ aftercare
Recovery after Saypha® MagIQ™ is minimal. You may notice some temporary redness, tenderness or mild bruising, but these effects typically subside within a few hours to a few days. To support healing, follow these aftercare guidelines:
- Apply ice packs for 15 to 20 minutes several times in the first 24 hours
- Avoid touching or rubbing treated areas unless directed by your provider
- Skip strenuous exercise and heavy sweating for 24 to 48 hours
- Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen daily, as UV exposure can break down hyaluronic acid fillers more quickly
Staying well-hydrated also helps maintain the integrity of the filler over time. Most patients return to normal activities right away, though it’s wise to avoid scheduling important social events for a few days following treatment.
How long do results last?
Results from Saypha® MagIQ™ typically last several months to over a year, depending on the treatment area, your individual metabolism and lifestyle factors. Your provider will work with you to develop a personalized maintenance schedule to help you sustain your results.
One additional benefit of choosing a hyaluronic acid filler like Saypha® MagIQ™ is that it can be dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed, offering patients and providers an important safety option.
