This makes their eyes look less visible, more tired-looking and can even interfere with their vision. Joel Schlessinger MD, can prescribe Upneeq® to create a more-youthful aesthetic while also widening and whitening the eyes at the same time.

Upneeq® is a once daily prescription eye drop, instilled directly into the eye. Results can be seen in as little as 15 minutes after application.

Upneeq®, and other cosmetic prescription skin care such as LATISSE®, Obagi Tretinoin and Refissa are available to our patients and can be fulfilled same day at the office.

How to apply Upneeq®

Follow these 3 simple, daily steps to apply your Upneeq® eye drops

STEP 1

Open your Upneeq® ampule and instill one drop into each affected eye, as directed. Be sure to remove any contacts first.

STEP 2

For the best results, close your eyes for 30-60 seconds and allow the Upneeq® drops to set in.

STEP 3

Enjoy your bright, more open eyes. The best results are seen after 2 hours and will last for 6-8 hours.

Upneeq® (oxymetazoline hydrochloride ophthalmic solution) is an FDA-approved prescription eyedrop that is meant to treat ptosis. It’s a safe and effective treatment option to help patients who are dealing with sagging upper eyelids, low-lying eyelids, or tired-looking eyes.

Eyelid ptosis is often caused by a weakening of an important eyelid muscle called Muller’s muscle (also known as the levator palpebrae muscle). As this muscle weakens over time due to the natural aging process, it becomes less able to keep the eyelid up, resulting in drooping or low-lying eyelids.

Muller’s muscle is an involuntary muscle, meaning people cannot make it contract on their own. However, the oxymetazoline hydrochloride in Upneeq® is able to make this muscle contract because it is an alpha-adrenergic agonist. When it stimulates certain muscle cells, they contract to lift the eyelid.

When you use Upneeq®, you can expect your drooping eyelids to lift in as little as two hours. In many cases, results can start to show as quickly as minutes following the application of the eye drops.

Treatment can help give you a brighter and more awake look, reducing a constantly tired or stressed appearance caused by ptosis.

Using Upneeq® can also help you address diminished upper-field vision, which will essentially help you see better. Drooping eyelids can impede full visual ability by reducing what you can see around you. You may start seeing vision improvements after just the first day of the treatment.

If you have sagging eyelids as a result of aging, stress, or health complications, you can most likely use Upneeq® to correct the issue. Candidates must have realistic expectations in terms of the results that Upneeq® can provide.

Before getting a prescription for Upneeq®, you will need to schedule consultation at Schlessinger MD to discuss your medical history, health, and goals with regard to the treatment. This treatment can, occasionally, have an effect on blood pressure. If you have health conditions such as high blood pressure, a weak heart, or immune system disorders, you will need to be careful with this treatment and should disclose such details during your consultation.

Additionally, if you have heart disease or an enlarged prostate and are taking alpha-adrenergic antagonist medication, you must mention this during your consultation. The same goes for beta-blockers or other medications being taken for hypertension or an abnormal heartbeat.
